Solar thermal energy would be the main source for producing electricity for the future needs. Solar energy in tropical and equatorial region is abandon. There are different methods developed to harvest this energy.
1. Concept of a dish/ engine power plant.
2. Concept of a linear fresnel reflector power plant.
3. Concept of a parabolic trough power plant.
4. Concept of a Power tower power plant.
Dish/Engine System:
A dish-shaped reflector concentrates sunlight on to a receiver located at the centre of the dish. The concentrated beam is absorbed into a receiver to heat a fluid or gas to high temperatures. This fluid or gas is then used to generate electricity in a small piston or a micro
Turbine attached to the receiver. It is for very small power generated and is connected to heat engines which has its own disadvantages of maintenance.
Linear Concentrator System and Parabolic Trough power plant:
The two main Linear CSP systems currently in operation worldwide are parabolic trough collectors and linear Fresnel reflectors. Both systems capture the sun’s energy with reflectors that focus the sunlight on to a linear receiver tube. The receiver contains a fluid that is heated by the sunlight and then used to create steam that powers turbine to produce electricity.
One way to classify these system is by the shape of the reflectors. A typical linear Fresnel reflector or uses an array of nearly-flat reflectors to concentrate solar radiation onto a elevated linear receiver. A parabolic trough system uses curved reflectors as solar collectors to reflect sunlight onto a pipe running along inside of the curved reflectors.
Power Tower Systems::
This CSP technology uses flat, sun tracking mirrors, known as heliostats, to focus sunlight onto a receiver at the top of a tower. The receiver contains a fluid that transfers heat to a steam turbine that generates electricity.
Our system will consists of either Frasnel or Parabolic trough arrays directly generating steam for the day time operational systems and for the storage system thermal fluid will be heated to generate steam continuously for 24 hours. This steam will drive micro-turbine and generate electricity.
